Obverse: Naked horseman walking to the right, crowning his horse.

Reverse: Naked Taras, riding a dolphin to the left, holding a kantharos and a distaff.

Historical Details: During a shipwreck, Taras was saved by a dolphin who picked him up on his back and put him on the shore. At this place in the 5th and 4th century BC the largest Greek city in southern Italy. After the death of Pyrrhus, king of Epirus in 272 BC, Taranto made an alliance with Rome.
