Historical details: Michael II, the Gegue, born in Amorium in Phygia was the favorite of Leo the Armenian, who made him a patrician. Accused of having conspired he was thrown into prison, but the emperor having been assassinated, he left his prison to ascend the throne in 820. Cruel towards the Orthodox and cowardly towards the external enemy, he allowed himself to be kidnapped by the Saracens.
