Didrachm of Taranto
Didrachm of Taranto in silver 302-281 BC. During a shipwreck, Taras was saved by a dolphin who took him on his back and deposited him on the shore. At this place, Taras created according to the legend the city of Taranto which became in the Vᵉ and IVᵉ century BC the largest Greek city in the south of Italy. After the death of Pyrrhus, king of Epirus in 272 BC, Taranto made an alliance with Rome.
